The Discussion Chapter:

The purpose: To interpret the results and justify the interpretation.

The steps:

• Distill the essence of the study.
• Restate key results.
• State main conclusion.
• Be clear about why results support the conclusion.
• Maintain connection with purpose of the study.
• Interpret the study in the context of the literature.
• Compare with results of/methods used in related studies.
• Emphasize strengths of the study, and what is
• State limitation/caveats (frankly, without apology)
• Make recommendations
• Changes in practice/policy.
• Future studies, including some specifics(e.g. study method).

Often requires five paragraphs. But all of the above points have to be covered even if it will be more than five paragraphs.
