BIO 211 California State University Long Beach Description of Ant Behavior Abstract Paper The abstract intro must include the following sections:
a. Introduction: A brief statement of the problem including your motivation for doing the study. It must be clear how your project is biologically relevant. Just because you can measure something does not mean that it is worth measuring.
b. Materials and Methods: This section must include a description of the methods in sufficient detail so that it is clear what you are doing, including sample sizes, assignment of subjects to treatments, statistics, etc.
c. You also must include the data sheets that you will use while collecting data. Begin to think about how you will collect data. What type of table will you need? What units will be used? Will you be photo-documenting your samples? How will you label you samples?
d. Results: Write a detailed description of the results you gathered for the experiment. Statistics is a significant portion of points for this assignment, so you also need to do t-tests. Make sure to label the tables and figures (graphs) you use.
e. Discussion: You need to write .5-1 pages including multiple citations to back up your results.Need stats talk, P-values, significance, conclusions, implications.
d. Citations: You must correctly cite at least one reference from the primary literature that is relevant to your abstract intro. In other words, within the body of your abstract, you must cite the reference; merely listing it after the text is not proper citation. Give the full citation, including the author(s), title, year of the publication, journal title, journal volume, and page numbers. READ YOUR REFERENCES! Please read them to see the proper way to cite scientific work. We will follow the American Psychological Association (APA) style for citations and creating bibliographies. Examples of APA citations are at the end of this document. Cited web pages will not count towards the required number of primary literature citations; you must cite the actual scientific article. Cite things that are relevant to your study from lab #1. It must be clear why you are citing each article.
e. Include a screen shot of the title page of the scientific paper you are citing, and include the abstract of each paper cited in your abstract intro.
