This assignment is a major part of your final grade (250 points!) You are expected to spend multiple hours studying for, and crafting, your report. Most of you are doing excellent work in the class. Just don’t give the impression that you’re trying to do the minimum amount possible–I really enjoy that realization when reading student works…) You can disagree with your sources, you can love music or ideas that I can’t stand–I’m not grading you on your taste or your writing technique.

Please take the time to communicate what you learned in an effective and interesting way.

In short:

Pick a topic you find thought-provoking.
Let your thoughts be provoked, and follow your curiosity to learn interesting things.
Share those interesting things with me. (The page length requirements are a guide to how deeply I’d like you to go in your exploration.)

How your report should look:

A title page.
3-7 complete pages of essay
Single Spaced
Normal margins
No plagiarism
A Bibliography page.

Choosing your topic:

Topic Options (Example):
Concert (Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock).
Festival (Woodstock) or
Tour (The Police’s 1984 Synchronicity Tour)
A concept of cultural significance that you found interesting during the course. (Tin Pan Alley)
If you have another idea that you think I would accept, email me and we’ll discuss it. (The Intersection of Rock and Roll and Hiphop.)
Choose a topic for which you will be able to find at least four sources:
Required for all concerts, and tours:
A linkable video of the concert.
A review of the concert.
Something written about the cultural impact (book, magazine, etc.).
Links to interviews with the artists.
Your notes from an interview with someone who has personal knowledge of the topic. (An attendee at the concert, a band member, a journalist, etc. Think outside the box–some of these topics won’t be traditionally documented.)
