Upon summarizing the key details of the article, you are to provide a more detailed analysis rooted in content covered in class and relevant external research in an effort to explain what facilitated effectiveness or ineffectiveness. In doing an initial assessment of whether the article will give you enough to talk about, try to lay out a potential structure for the paper to determine if you have a strong case on your hands or not. • Similarly, it would be a good idea to think of what evidence you can compile to substantiate your case (e.g., Can I find workplace injury stats if I am arguing that the leader’s decisions jeopardized worker safety? Can I find details on whom the leader surrounds him/herself with as evidenced by the organization’s board of directors make-up? Can I find metrics that quantify the impact of the leader’s decisions, perhaps, how they’ve impacted certain communities at risk?) • Credible and reputable sources are ones like Harvard Business Review, New York Times, Washington Post, The Economist, etc. Sources like People magazine are NOT credible and reputable when it comes to this class and assignment

Now that you have selected an appropriate article and read it thoroughly, write up a summary of the article that emphasizes its key events/happenings/matters. • Your goal is to relay information that is critical to conveying to your reader how the event/situation is a suitable context to determine whether effective OR ineffective leadership took place and shaped the outcomes. • Use your own voice – don’t simply copy chunks of text from the article • If the article features interviews or remarks made by relevant stakeholders, don’t use up your real estate to simply paste that blurb • Give an indication as to (1) what stance you will be taking (i.e., am I arguing that the leader was effective? Or ineffective?) AND (2) what predictors/contributors you will be discussing in the sections to follow so as to prepare the reader and convey what angle you’re taking with the paper 3.
