University of New Hampshire Overture to “Candide” by Leonard Bernstein Paper Module 3 Assignment: Putting it all together
Using the information we have covered in class up to this point, along with your own experience, write a 1.5-2 page description of a piece of music. The piece is the Overture to “Candide” by Leonard Bernstein. The link to the recording is just below the assignment instructions. During your description/analyzation, you will want to address concepts such as tempo, texture, form, dynamic range and instrumentation (and other areas as you feel is appropriate).
You will want to listen to this recording several times, and it will be helpful to focus on 1 or 2 specific concepts at a time. Hopefully, this will help you find the answers you are searching for each time you listen. Also, it is often helpful to space out the listening over the course of a couple of days. Trying to do this in 1 long session is usually more challenging. Best of luck!!
