TLMT 351 American Public University System Packaging Design Brief for Juice PPT Instructions: Assume you are the packaging engineer for a large consumer products company. In this company, the Packaging Design Briefs are initiated by the marketing group and forwarded to the Package Engineering group. You currently are working on three packaging design briefs. Copies of these design briefs are attached. Note that the marketing department has completed some information on each brief and the Package Engineering department will complete the remaining information.

1. Choose one of the briefs that have been attached and complete the information on the brief. Using what you have learned in the class, complete the information needed on the design brief. Please include justification of your responses when requested. You are making judgment calls based on the information that you have been given and also based on what we have learned in the class.

Product description: The product is a newly designed laptop computer. The product
dimensions are 15” x 11” x 1-1/2”. It weighs 8 pounds.
Production of product: The product will be produced in quantities of 3000 in Texas and
shipped by truck to 5 different distribution centers in the United States and then will be
distributed to stores in quantities of 10 per store.
In-store sales method: One model will be on display in the store out of the packaging, the
rest will remain in the package in the back room of the store until they are sold.
Price Point of product: This is a mid-range laptop computer.
Specific requirements of package in the store: The package must show the brand name and
some legal information. In addition to the product, the package must contain a power cord,
the battery (to be put into the computer by the end-use customer) and an instruction manual.

Product description: This is a small electronics product, similar in shape, size, and durability
to a USB thumb drive. The overall size of the product is 3” x 1” x ½”. This is a low-cost item
that is targeted to the general public who uses personal computers.
Production of product: The product will be produced in quantities of 100,000 in China and
shipped by boat to the US. Units of 100 will be distributed to retail stores by truck throughout
the United States.
In-store sales method: The product will be displayed on a hook in a retail store with 10 per
hook.
Price Point of product: This is a low end item within the product category and has a low
price-point.
Specific requirements of package in the store: The package must show the brand name and
some legal information. The package must be hanging on a hook in the store. In addition to
the product, the package must contain a small instructions booklet (2” x 2” when folded).
