The cultural impact of Broadway within the last ten years

Working thesis that has been approved by prof: Broadway has made such a positive financial and cultural impact on the state of new york for the past ten years and therefore should be respected and funded appropriately.  Playbill.com has been pre-approved as a .com source, use mostly scholarly articles.  Include a works cited page, and an annotated bibliography.  Discuss the cultural impact of broadway within the last ten years through the musicals Hamilton, The Book Of Mormon, and Once On This Island.  I’d like to see a draft before the final at least 48 hours before the due date. One page should be addressing a counter-argument. This paper is for an English class, but the topic is theatre. Please contact me with any questions.  Here is my research proposal for the assignment, use this as a guide.  Topic: Broadway’s cultural & financial impact Thesis: Broadway has made such a positive financial and cultural impact on the state of new york for the past ten years and therefore should be respected and funded appropriately. Question:  How much have broadway shows grossed in 2009-2019? How many people have broadway shows employed (2009-2019) What kind of cultural impact has broadway had over the last ten years? How are the arts funded? Introduction:  The theatre industry has always had a difficult time gaining respect from people outside of it. People are quick to cite that live theatre is a non-beneficial, dying industry that doesn’t deserve funding or recognition. These claims are simply incorrect. Broadway alone generated a gross revenue of 14 billion dollars from 2009-2019, and broadway’s impact only grows beyond the theatre. Broadway’s expansion into mainstream media through streaming services such as Disney+ and Amazon Prime only expands the cultural impact that broadway has left on our world in the last decade. Importance: It’s very important that broadway and the theatre industry as a whole is respected amongst government officials and the public. The arts are already so under funded and underappreciated, that they need all of the help they can get.  Counter-argument: The only counter argument i anticipate facing is that broadway is a dying industry, and that live theatre will soon become obsolete, so therefore, its impact isn’t as great. For some reason these arguments are extremely prevalent, i’ve heard it far too many times as a theatre major. But both of these claims can be refuted with a quick google search.  Research Plan: I intend to use a couple of scholarly articles that cite the growth of the theatre industry over the last decade, as well as information and statistics from playbill.com to support my argument.
