Technical Communication – 4 single page & single spaced essays, on different topics

Each “1, 2, 3, 4” question is a full page essay with introduction, body, conclusion.  These questions are based on Technical Communication – if you have the text book or want to cite it ( Technical communication – twelfth edition by Mark Markel & Stuart A. Selber Essay Questions, (one full single-spaced page each), 25 pts each. Each response must make and support a clear argument. Your responses must be detailed and cite the text when appropriate. Specific examples and explanations are required. No outside sources are required; do not use sources other than those provided in class without first seeking approval. Responses that are vague will earn minimal credit; responses less than the required length will earn half credit at most. See the rubric for additional evaluation criteria.    1.     “Technical communication is simply relaying facts from an expert to an audience.” Explain the problem with this statement. What are some of the complexities of technical communication? What role do facts play? Persuasion? Views of technical communication?   2.     Explain the concepts of ethos, logos, and pathos. Why are these concepts, and the theory of rhetoric in general, important for technical communicators?    3.     Explain ethos of expediency and ethic of expediency. Why is each problematic? Give an example, other than those mentioned by Katz, of how an ethic of expediency can be problematic for both technical communicators and their end users.   4.     Based both on your own experience and what you’ve learned so far this semester, evaluate the importance and prevalence of the nine measures of excellence in technical documents. What measure what you add to the list to make it a list of ten? Explain your reasoning.  ( Can do an overview of the important facts of technical communication and why it is important )
