Taif Disaster Medicine and Emergency Management Communication Scenario 2. Here is the scenario – You are planning a tabletop exercise designed to solve a recurring problem in your pre-hospital system. This is an urban system with a total of 10 paid paramedics and 20 paid EMTs. There are also 15 volunteer EMTs. The problem is that communication among the various EMTs and paramedics and among responding units is less than optimal. Problems include lack of interoperability and failure to use standard terminology.

a. Determine who the players should be. Write an email notice inviting them to a tabletop with an explanation of what you hope to accomplish.

b. Write a communication scenario that will allow the players to address the problem at hand.

c. Make a list of facilities and materials you will use in the exercise.

Dear Center City County EMS Paramedics, EMTs, and Volunteers:
As part of the Emergency Management Department effort to improve its communications interoperability
capabilities, a Communications Tabletop Exercise for Center City EMS workers will be conducted on May 31 at
Center City EMS headquarters Room #7. This exercise will run from 08:00 am to 01:00 pm.
The exercise will focus on communications interoperability and the use of standard terminology in response to huge
Emergency events.
Goal: Provide recommendations for solving EMS interoperable communications gaps.
Exercise Agenda

Scenario
On Sunday Afternoon, the temperature is 95 F degrees, and the winds are seven miles per hour out of the Northeast.
At 01:25 pm, an accident occurs on Henry Ave. Police officers on the scene reporting that the accident involves a
pickup truck and a diesel tank truck. You notified that there is a possibility of people trapped inside the vehicles, and
cars and people are being sprayed with fine, diesel droplets.
HAZMAT team and Firefighters on the scene
Two ALS units and tow BLS units available to you.
Six Paramedic,16 EMTS, 15 volunteer EMTs available upon request.
Facilities and materials:
A big conference room with enough space and two big Screens.
Notes book and pens.
The exercise materials; guide, maps, exercise evaluation forms, etc.
