In addition to learning how to do correlations, the goal of this assignment is to find out which

Part I
Create an SPSS data file ready to be analyzed. You will find pages 265-269 in your textbook
to be helpful with this.

Part II
Use SPSS to calculate a complete correlation matrix as well as scatter-plots of the four
strongest correlations (explore the SPSS options under Graphs ? Chart Builder ? Select the
image with tiny circles and a line (second to right, top) ? Drag this to the window above ?
Drag a variable from the list to the left into the bottom box under the figure ? Drag a
comparison variable to the box along the y-axis (do this for each graph) ? OK.
(a) The 21 correlations should be summarized below in the UNSHADED portions of the
matrix/table; (b) The best correlation with YOUR data should be recorded in the blanks beneath
the matrix/table (note that df = N – 2, where N represents the number of pairs of data being
compared in the correlation – so as long as you had data for all 38 movies, your df should be 36);
and (c) the scatter-plots (two per page would be ideal) of the two strongest and the two weakest
correlations with YOUR data are to be attached to this completed sheet.
It should go without saying, but to reduce uncertainty, please DO YOUR OWN WORK!
