Description
Write a 700-word critical rhetorical analysis in which you evaluate the rhetorical strategies of one of the scholarly articles you are considering for your research-informed essay. When we finish reading your essay, we should have a clear understanding of why you think the scholarly article is or is not a credible source, and what informs your argument. Your essay is due by 11:59 p.m., Oct. 21st. I will explain how to submit your essay and a copy of the scholarly article you selected as we near the due date, and if you have been working on your essay, but need a little more time after our due date, I will give you more time. Please talk with me during office hours if you have questions about the assignment; you can also ask questions in the Query Quest section of the discussion board. You do not have to guess about any part of this assignment. If you need help understanding any part of the assignment or you want to talk over any part of it, please reach out. I will probably be offering some writing sessions in support of this essay. More on that next week. Stay tuned! Your essay should: – Summarize the scholarly article, explain the author’s purpose, and explain who the intended audience is for the scholarly article (Here you want to use the reading with the grain approach.) -Analyze how well the author establishes their credibility and trustworthiness – Analyze how well, or to what extent, the author uses reliable sources and/or methods – Analyze how well the author treats their opposition fairly – Analyze how well the author creates a logical structure for their argument You might be asking yourself how you will structure this essay. This is a sample rhetorical analysis essay, and while it differs in some ways from what we are doing, overall it follows the same approach and should give you a better understanding of how the different parts of the essay work together
