Alibaba Group Holding Limited is a Chinese multinational technology company specializing in e-commerce, retail,
Internet, and technology. Assuming that Alibaba intends to leverage the market opportunity in Bahrain and open
their first branch here. They have hired you as a HR Consultant to advise them on how to attract the best talent
in Bahrain. As part of your role as HR Consultant you are required to conduct extensive research on Bahrain
Labour market. Your final product will require you to combine each of the assessment tasks into a cohesive
report, including a table of contents and any necessary appendices. Format your report as a professional product
that you would give to the organization.
Create a company profile highlighting main information about the company such as a brief history, culture and
nature of business.
Task 2: Based on the information from your research, formulate an appropriate talent philosophy, HR
strategy and specific resourcing strategy for Alibaba group. Explain how Alibaba should address each of the
nine strategic resourcing decisions based on your analysis of the company’s competitive advantage. (LO1,3)

Task 3: Explain the characteristics of the labor market in Bahrain. How does it differ from the countries that
this business is already operating in? Highlight the concept of hiring locals and the government initiatives to
promote the same. (LO1)
Task 4: According to LMRA website, advise the organization on preparing a HR Guide for hiring local as well as
expatriate staff (See Labour Law on Moodle) (LO3)

Assessment Task:
The assessment task requires you to analyze the Bahraini and global labor market and advise an organization with
key decisions related to its resourcing function.
Task 1:
The student is expected to
1. Conduct research on Alibaba and analyse its organizational strategy
2. Based on the organizational strategy the students must be able to formulate an
appropriate talent philosophy that will guide their HR strategy and in turn be presented
as specific resourcing strategy

Task 2:
The student is expected to research about the Labour market in Bahrain and explain how it
differs from other countries the business is already having its operations in terms of the
workforce demographics, hiring of expatriates. You may choose another GCC country to
compare Bahrain with.
The student is expected to highlight the government initiatives in these countries in terms of,
Nationalization and its implications on recruitment. Is there a role for Tamkeen to play?
The student is expected to conduct research about the Labour market in Bahrain and other
countries:
• Explain how it differs from other countries in terms of the workforce demographics
• Hiring of expatriates as well as local talent.
• Public and private sector preferences of the workforce
• System of hiring expats: Kafala System/workers mobility/
• Rate of unemployment in these countries.
• The student is expected to highlight the government initiatives in these countries in terms of
E.g. Bahrainisation and its implications on recruitment.
• They should choose a GCC country to compare Bahrain with.
• Highlight any employment trends in these countries specifically Bahrain
