Reflective slides on each movements

For this assignment you will create a portfolio that reflects on the main design styles and movements examined on the module (e.g. modernism, art deco, streamlining etc.) and assesses their impact on design history.

We recommend building the portfolio as a PowerPoint document with one slide for each of the styles or movements we have covered. The portfolio should not have more than 20 slides in total. It should include both written text and relevant images.

For each style or movement examined, you are advised to address the following points:

What historical context did it emerge from? (e.g. time period, country, social, economic or political climate etc.)
What were its main design principles? (e.g. truth-to-materials, minimalism, design for mass production etc.)
What are the main characteristics of its design output? (e.g. aesthetics, influences, materials, motifs etc.)
These guidelines should help you analyse each style or movement effectively, but you do not necessarily need to reproduce them as subheadings in the portfolio.

N.B. It is important that you do not simply repeat the content of the presentations i have provided as an example. Instead, you are advised to conduct independent research into each subject using a range of research methods (e.g. academic books and articles, your own visual analysis of design objects, fieldwork, and visiting museums or galleries).

The portfolio should also include a slide reflecting on your own learning process – what do you feel you have learned from the module, what skills have you developed and how might this influence your understanding of, or approach to, design?
