Clinical staff members are not washing their hands between patients
Washing hands is part of the hygiene protocol that practitioners in hospitals should
put into account. The lack of proper handwashing puts the practitioner and most especially
the patient at risk of infection and cross-contamination. This extends their hospital stays,
which is an issue of lowered quality. When a patient walks into a hospital, they expect that
they will come out treated and feeling better, not with additional infections. This is a
compliance issue since there are clear rules and guidelines in training for the practitioners on
the importance of handwashing as part of hygiene protocol in the hospital. Additionally, the
hospital has policies and standard operating procedures which practitioners are supposed to
adhere to. Hence, when they fail to wash their hands between patients, it is ignorance of the
laid down protocol and procedures, which is a compliance issue. Developing a compliance
plan ensures that staff complies with these hygiene practices to improve the quality of care.
Employees are not knowledgeable in the use of fire extinguishers.
Fires are emergencies that could be detrimental to the organization as a whole. This is
especially so considering that the facility in question here is a hospital full of patients. In case
of a fire, some patients who may even be immobile may succumb. This could have been
avoided if there was adequate knowledge on the use of fire extinguishers. This is an
important issue in compliance as it affects the safety of the patients and the staff. The lack of
an understanding of how to use fire extinguishers eventually leads to reduced quality of care
for the patients. There is a requirement that employees should understand how and when to
use fire extinguishers as part of the safety protocol. Therefore, the lack of understanding the
same is a compliance issue. The development of a compliance plan here will enhance
workplace safety practices.
