Susan is a Compliance Officer for a large hospital that operates as a trauma center. Her background is in case and quality management, and she is a trained nurse. I have seen those with a clinical background or an administrative background in the roles of a compliance officer. I think both contribute to a different set of skill sets and knowledge that are effective.  When choosing to hire as a compliance officer, the overall background and experience of the individual weigh in heavy. I am clinical and will now have administrative knowledge once I complete my degree. My clinical background has given me some foundation that helps tie into some of the administrative aspects of the job. There is a need for clinical healthcare workers, and often a company will want to utilize that healthcare worker clinically instead of placing them in an administrative role to use their talents for direct patient care.  However, both can be an asset. Researching jobs, I found both requirements. Some organizations required an RN degree, and some did not
