By applying knowledge and theories people can actively participate in programs that modify behaviors that lead to unhealthy living. In my health promotion program involving People in the public can be complex and challenging from the start. As soon as people take the step to improve on becoming healthier goals can be accomplished. My health promotion program “To become a better you” will target the residents of Washington DC within the community. When beginning any program, firstly we must plan to evade pitfalls, secondly starting with a strategic plan that recognizes all levels to be considered for developing the program not to be mistaken for a comparable program. Lastly, we need to be sure to look at the pros and cons of the anticipated program to be considered and created.
I have chosen Obesity as my program topic. Obesity means extreme bodyweight or to have additional fat. When a person becomes obese, they have additional personal bodyweight from navicular bone, water, fat or muscle. Obesity is measured through a body mass index (BMI). It is a record of body weight with respect to height of an individual’s body, that is for kids, adolescents, and adults (CDC, 2012). A person who has body mass index between 25 and 29.9 is well thought-out to be obese, and a body mass index of 30 or higher is considered obese. When you are obese, you are at an advanced risk for many health related issues. The ecological components might result in individuals gaining weight because it is genetic. Social and economic difficulties sometimes can’t be handled and could result to obesity. Furthermore, there are numerous risk elements which can be stopped and managed. Firstly, a person can avoid becoming obsessed is the family’s way of living. This is because close family members have alike nutritional workouts, action workouts, and ways of living (World Health Organization, n.d. 2012). Negative nutritional workouts may be avoidable together with a sedentary lifestyle, and restlessness. With a sedentary lifestyle this may result to the calories not being burned up in one’s body, thus the stored fat leads to obesity (World Health Organization, n.d. 2012). With an unhealthy diet technique which include foods high in sugars, oil, and starch, this paves the way to the development of bodyweight. Family way of lifestyle is also a vital aspect to the development of obesity, which must be dealt with properly (World Health Organization, n.d. 2012). For instance, if the parent of an obese child is allowing that child to eat unhealthy meals (fast food – burger king, Macdonald) because the mother or that child is more likely to become obese. Obesity can result in more psychological and actual medical problems in the forthcoming years. Finally, if a person has insomnia, this may have effect on the hormones in the person’s body which this tends to increases the person’s appetite and craving for high cholesterol and calorie meals (CDC, 2012).
It is very vital to create an awareness in everyone about the dangers of obesity. It is very essential to help give individuals information of being obese and for them to know the threats of it psychological and actual. Giving evidence to a mother and father to indulge in proper diet strategy and work out on the regular so that they can be encouraging role models for their children is a strategy to preventing the increase rate in Obesity.
