Providers focusing on patient centered-care

Respond to each thought separately

  1. All publicly traded companies and large private entities prepare financial statements periodically. The purpose of creating financial statements is to capture a company’s financial position for a given period. This allows users of financial information to analyze and compare the health of one company to another. 1. Scenario One: One patient is being seen a providers office to receive care for a specific medical issue. The patient has been seen by this provider on several occasions, however the provider never once included the patient or their family in the decision making for their care. The provider of care also never once thought about the emotional, social, and financial state of this patient.

Outcome: Providers focusing on patient centered-care is performance improvement that hospitals need.  Patient-centered care encourages the collaborative and decision making between patients, families, and providers.  Providers not only focusing on the physical care of the patient but, the emotional well-being. “Patient-centered care also is being fueled by the information revolution. Patients now have instant access to health information via their computers or mobile phones. As a result, patients are better informed and more active participants in their care” (Solomon, 2017).

Scenario Two: Patients that live in rural areas are having transportation issues making their doctor appointments, and/or have to travel miles just for effective primary care.  Not to mention there is less than 10 percent of the U.S. physicians that practice in rural areas. “ The scarcity also may be at least partially responsible for the greater incidence of chronic health conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, and emphysema among rural residents” (Klein, 2018).

Outcome: Telemedicine allows health care professionals to assess, analyze and treat patients in distant locations using telecommunications technology. Telemedicine permits patients in rural places to access medical proficiency quickly, efficiently and without travel.
