As you have learned, this component in a public relations plan provides an analysis of the current events and situation at the organization. It should include a brief organizational history. You must use appropriate headings, subheadings and organization. Remember that the situation analysis is purely historical. Do not include what you are proposing to do or change. It is essential that you correctly cite sources, that you do not lift text from source including web pages, etc.

To complete the situation analysis,

1.Do additional research on your organization, being sure to gather bibliographic information as you go. Confirm the accuracy of your sources, and do not use Wikipedia or similar “third-party” or unreliable sources.

2.Outline. Begin by reviewing your notes, chapters and handouts then preparing an outline of your headings and subheadings.

3.Write your situation analysis.

a. A typical situation analysis for a project like this will be 2-3 pages long, but some may be longer. Plan to include any and all information you will need as background for preparing publicity for the event in question. Typical subdivisions for the situation analysis are (customize to fit your needs!)May include the following:

•History of the national organization•Current, newsworthy information (if any)
