Leader in Virtual Team
The success of a virtual team depends on the personality and leadership style employed by a
leader. An effective leader should make wise decisions (Lussier & Achua,2015). As a leader of this
team, I would apply an assertive trait that involves seeking views of team members and respecting
their decisions during group meetings. This approach would ensure every team member feels
respected and valued within the organization. Similarly, I would encourage collaboration among
team members to boost interpersonal relationships. This approach would ensure that employees
overcome the adverse effects of social isolation that prevent physical interactions. Additionally,
collaboration would ensure employees overcome the impact of the task-oriented type of interaction
that is prevalent within a virtual team (Ale Ebrahim, Ahmed & Taha, 2009). Mastery of name is also
necessary to guarantee a high level of employee commitment. For this reason, I would save the
contact of all employees in order to match them with their profile pictures. This move would
simplify the communication processes during online video-conferencing sessions, enabling me to
call team members by their names. My approaches would strive to motivate team members to stay
dedicated to work and probably become more productive. In doing so, we would all benefit from the
team and drive our organization to greater heights.
Managing a Diverse Team
Management of a diverse team requires a lot of leadership patience to understand how to
work well with everyone (Kolzow, 2014). Cultural awareness is necessary for team success. For
this reason, I would investigate the best skills that guarantee the success of a leader, including
studying the norms and traditions of popular cultures within my local geographical area. This scope
is necessary to ensure I focus on the majority of cultures I would interact with and apply knowledge
gained to other settings. I would encourage team members to study significant aspects of each

other’s cultures. This process would cause culture shock, which would stimulate learning.
Furthermore, I would encourage my team members to have friends from different backgrounds to
prevent instances where workers form a clique. Cliques can take a toll on diversity since they can
be based on cultural background or socioeconomic status. Lastly, I would encourage team members
to avoid using biased language during interactions to respects diversity. This process would ensure
that team members treat one another with love and collaborate to achieve workplace goals.

OPTION #2: CHAPTER 9 SELF ASSESSMENTS

Option #2: Chapter 9 Self-Assessments
Leadership is an essential role in any workplace setting. A leader stimulates the
implementation of changes to ensure an organization meets the requirements of its mission
statement. I explore my transformational leadership style in this reflection, based on the outcome of
my self-assessment.
Transformational Leadership
I believe I am a transformational leader courtesy of my innate soft skills. I am an assertive
communicator and believe in gathering the thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs of my juniors before
making any decision. This process guarantees shared decision making and working as a team.
According to Lussier and Achua (2015), transformational leadership involves being a servant who
encourages a workplace environment of mutual respect. I believe in teamwork to avoid collision and
to guarantee smooth execution of various tasks.
Recommendation
Anyone in a leadership position should determine his or her style of leadership to understand
how to work best with subordinates. In doing so, the leader would also determine the followership
qualities of subordinates and devise the most appropriate approach to undertake various activities.
Conclusion
To sum up, leadership style determines the type of legacy that a leader would have whenever
his or her tenure end. My self-assessment exercise has shown that I possess transformational
leadership traits, although I also adjust to charismatic style based on different situations.

Self-Assessment 2: Personality in Charismatic and Transformational Leadership
a. Charismatic Leadership
My charismatic leadership traits include a high ability to empower others; I am a visionary person,
possess exceptional skills of communication, and believe in a workplace that has minimal conflict.
Additionally, I inspire trust in others by staying committed to the needs of others instead of pursuing
my self-interests. These traits simplify my interactions with others.
b. Transformational Leadership
My personality plays a significant role in influencing my transformational leadership style. I
alternate my personality traits to suit different situations. I am an extroverted individual and enjoy

bonding with others to create meaningful connections. In addition, I apply the personality trait of
agreeableness to consider views of my juniors when undertaking my leadership duties.
