First Argument
Present the best argument on one side of the issue. (approximately 150 words)
Express your argument in standard form, with the premises listed one by one above the conclusion.
Defense for First Argument
Support the first argument as well as you can, using academic sources to demonstrate the truth of key premises. You may also choose to clarify the meaning of key premises and to explain how your reasoning supports the conclusion (approximately 250 words).
Opposing Argument
Present the best argument on the other side of the issue (approximately 150 words).
Express your argument in standard form.
Defense of Opposing Argument
Support the opposing argument as well as you can, using academic sources to demonstrate the truth of key premises. You are welcome as well to clarify the meaning of premises and/or to explain the reasoning further (approximately 250 words).
Analysis of the Reasoning (approximately 350 words)
Evaluate the quality of each argument, addressing whether key premises are true and whether the conclusion logically follows from them.
Analyze arguments for any fallacies committed or for any biases that may influence either side. Do you feel that one argument makes a much stronger case than the other and why? (There is no need to “take sides,” only to assess the quality of the arguments.)
Support your analysis with scholarly sources.
Conclusion (approximately 150 words)

City Life versus Village Life
Introduction
Urban and city centers all around the globe have become densely populated. This is
owed to the fact that many people have been traveling to the cities in search of greener
pastures. Governments and proponents of rural life have been, on the other hand, become
actively involved in convincing people that they can still have a good experience, even in
rural areas. This is the argument that the grass is greener, where it is watered rather than on
the other side. These aspects have brought on quite huge debates on whether urban life is
better than rural life and vice versa. This paper aims to analyze both sides-for rural and urban
life using scholarly resources and the quality of each.
Presentation of an Argument
In their research, Cyr et al. (2019) looked at access to specialty healthcare in urban
versus rural healthcare. The study’s designated mode was a systematic literature review where
the scholars analyzed data within the CINAHL, Medline, PubMed, PsycInfo, and ProQuest
Social Sciences databases published between January 2013 and August 2018. The study
found that access to care in both rural and urban settings is a challenge. However, people
living in rural areas are more likely to experience more significant problems. There are
additional challenges to transportation and the availability of qualified personnel in these
areas. Thus, the conclusion is that based on access to specialized healthcare, urban areas are
better than rural areas.
The primary argument may be presented based on these premises;
1. Premise 1: the study collected a large pool of data from diverse sources, which helps to
curb the bias problem and give reliable findings.

2. Premise 2: The study found that 85 percent of individuals who resided in rural areas
lacked specialized access to rehabilitation centers, which shows that there is a problem of
accessibility.
3. Premise 3: The ability for individuals to pay indicated that the socio-economic status of
the people in rural areas could hinder their ability to seek specialized care limiting the

access to healthcare services that promote positive health outcomes.

the argument? [Jarrod

The quality of reasoning in this article is quite strong. This is because there is the use of
different indicators of the presence or ability to access healthcare in both areas. This includes
the use of variables such as the ability to seek healthcare, the ability to pay, the ability to
reach, and even the ability to engage the different healthcare practitioners. In all these
variables, the researchers compare the rural and urban areas, which brings in better
perspectives from both sides. The quality of reasoning also becomes much more reliable
when the authors present arguments on new dimensions that may be affecting healthcare in
rural and urban areas.
Among these are government regulations, specialist influence, and stigma. These
elements provide perspectives away from the norm of accessibility and availability of
resources and practitioners that are the most common variables for measuring healthcare
access. Lastly, the reasoning is strong as elicited by the scholar’s ability to identify limitations
of research. An excellent article acknowledges the weak spots and provides the opportunity
for other researchers to focus on the same. The limitations mentioned include the
consideration of the only peer-reviewed journals in the databases mentioned above. This
could have left out important areas of comparison from conference proceedings papers and
other grey areas.

In another study, Teckle et al. (2012), investigated whether the health of people living
in rural areas was different from that of those living in urban areas. The study seemed to have
opposing opinions on the ones presented by Cry et al. (2019). There was no significant
difference in the health outcomes relating to rurality or life in urban areas. The study argued
that other factors, such as age, influenced health outcomes. It also found that there was the
likelihood of people living in urban areas to have higher mortality rates and risk to infection
of coronary heart diseases than those living in rural areas.
The premises supporting these arguments include;
1. The study used reliable data in that it acquired the same from mortality and hospital
record data.
2. Individuals who lived in rural areas were less likely to have health-related problems such
as hypertension or coronary heart diseases.
3. Without regard to individuals’ social status, there was still a lower likelihood of mortality
among older people in rural areas compared to people of the same age in urban areas.
The argument presented herein is relatively stable. First, it is essential to acknowledge
that the study’s findings are based on facts because of the use of scientific methods of
research. There is also an analysis of some factors that may be the indicator of good health,
including age and the vulnerability to illnesses such as hypertension and coronary blood
diseases. However, some limitations prevent this study, and the arguments presented to be
much more reliable. Regarding good health determinants, it is essential to consider additional
factors and the background of the individual under the study. An individual may be less likely
to acquire hypertension because they have been practicing healthy eating habits and general
1
lifestyle. However, if an individual has a history of smoking or a poor lifestyle, they may be
more prone. These are some factors that differentiate between people in urban and those in
rural life that may affect their health that the study should have put into consideration.

Evaluation of Arguments
The above arguments for and against rural and urban areas exemplify instance there
scholarly articles can have differing opinions. All cases presented above are right as there is
the use of different variables. The first article focuses on the different abilities to access care
while the other focuses on elements such as age and how they affect care. Although the
variables seek to measure one outcome, there is a difference in the population’s statuses,
making the scholarly articles have differing perspectives. This is the same case with
nonscholarly pieces. They are likely to have differing opinions due to the difference in
variables used by the authors.
However, it is important to note one difference that can be imminent in scholarly and
nonscholarly articles. Nonscholarly articles will sometimes rely heavily on the opinion of the
author. This is because they want to put what they believe across without considering the
other side’s perspective. The sources that will use research data will not present data on the
opposite side, which may mislead the reader. Such elements are what make nonscholarly
sources biased. However, for scholarly sources, there is the presentation of concrete evidence
from reliable data sources, whether primary or secondary, which makes it better or believable
when carrying out essential pieces of research.
Conclusion
This activity has been an eye-opener in terms of how to research in the future. It has
led to the realization that research needs to have articles that present arguments from both
sides to draw valid and reliable conclusions. Although it is necessary to look at nonscholarly
sources, it is crucial as a researcher to ensure that they are not biased, and they have factual
evidence. In the future, these are all elements to be taken into account in the course of
research.
