Penn State University American Culture Letter Final project (35%). If it is our responsibility to shape the culture we want to belong to; what can you do to shape sports culture? You can select the form of your final project, but it should communicate your ideas about any positive aspects of sports culture you want to amplify or any areas of sport culture that you want to change; the point is to highlight both our responsibilities and our agency. Your project should connect to class ideas we’ve discussed or read about in class. If you like to write: you could write a letter to a specific person such as someone in sports media, an owner, physician, coach or other representative of a team, UW’s Athletic Director, etc. If you like to talk: you could do the equivalent of the above in a video format. If you like to act: you could create a promotional video, commercial, parody, etc. If you like music: you could compose a song and provide a video of a performance. If you like art, you could create a poster series that use images and language in ways that make people think about course topics. Your grade will be based on: a.) identification of an area or areas of sport you would like to amplify or change based on class discussions or readings; b.) your proposal for how to amplify or change the sport culture of your focus, c.) written citations either in the body of your assignment or as attachments for creative pieces demonstrating the connections between the ideas in your final project and our class, and; d.) evidence that you put thought and effort into the project. Purpose of this assignment: For you to apply the ideas from our course to the world around you in a manner that promotes awareness about the active role you can play in shaping our sports culture. Due Date: Friday. June 5 on Canvas by 11:59 pm.
