Research Article Summary #2

INSTRUCTIONS

Find 1 peer-reviewed (scientific) journal article.
Make sure that the article is a research study (not an essay or something like that).
For the article, write at least one paragraph answering these questions:
What was the purpose of the study (i.e., What were the researchers trying to discover?)
What did they do in the study (e.g., Did they survey people? Did they interview community members? Did they examine some sort of criminal justice activity? Did they review people’s histories and court records? etc.)
Write an additional one paragraph explaining how the study relates to our class and/or relates to Life-Course Criminology.
The paper needs to be in 12-point font with normal margins (1-inch) and double-spaced.
At the end of your submission, provide an APA reference citation for the article (this is a good thing to learn). You do NOT need to worry about in-text citations, just a reference at the end.
You will submit this on our course CANVAS page (there is a place for you to attach it as a Microsoft Word document).

***IMPORTANT NOTE: This is NOT a research methods class. You are more than welcome to write whatever you want, but you do not have to get technical about methodology or statistics or anything like that. Simply, when describing the study, I am just looking for you to essentially provide the “Who/What/Where/When/Why” in your own words.

Grading Rubric That I Will Use to Assess Points

ARTICLE (30 points)

Overall Description of the Study = 10 points

Explanation of How the Study Relates to Life-Course Criminology/Our Class = 10 points

APA Citation of the Article is in Correct Format = 2 points

Write-Up of Article Meets All Instructions Provided = 3 points

(instructions related to proper length of paragraphs, format, etc.)
