For my friend

Youre just doing the essay so the one that says due Saturday I already did it ,

Hello Class,

You are doing a rhetorical analysis of the website of a company that you might apply to one day because you need to know a company well enough to write a persuasive cover letter and demonstrate in your interview that you researched the company thoroughly and you are a good fit for the job. Rhetorical analysis of a company’s website can be an effective tool to get to know that company well enough to get you the job.

We are practicing rhetorical analysis now, because it will be the basis for the rest of our projects focused on learning to be a good academic writer and a good writer in your future professional field.

1 Your initial post is due tonight by 11:59 p.m.

2 Your response to a classmate is due Saturday by 11:59 p.m.

3 The rough draft of your Unit One Essay is due submitted to Tutor.com (tab located in the left-side menu in Blackboard) before 11:59 p.m. on 9/1. You may do a live session or a drop off review- allow 48 hours to get the drop off essay back.

4 You will bring your draft essay to class on 9/3 for Peer Review day. You will submit the draft of the Unit One Essay (with the tutor’s notes) to ME in Blackboard on Thursday, 9/3 by 11:59 p.m.

5 The example essay that I posted is from another class and the student was analyzing a news editorial, not a company website; so, it is not an exact model but is still an insightful rhetorical analysis. There is also a good student rhetorical analysis essay of an advertisement on pages 74-79 of your textbook.

Hello

Welcome!

These are good questions that you have.

In a rhetorical analysis essay we are trying to figure out what choices the author made to persuade their audience, and then, our thesis is a claim about how successful the author was in being persuasive.

In the intro, you want to introduce the background about the text you are analyzing and have your thesis as the last sentence. Next, you will have a paragraph answering the rhetorical context questions, then you may have about three paragraph about the rhetorical strategies the author used (ethos, pathos, logos), followed by a conclusion. Please, see the Unit One Assignment sheet for more help.

The most persuasive writers know what their audience considers credible, logical, and what will emotionally appeal to them. SO, what is considered persuasive writing all depends on who your audience is and what the writing situation is.
