National University Wood Light Frame Summary Chapter 7: Interior Finishes for Wood Light Frame ConstructionInterior finishing operations on a wood platform frame building consists of interaction and involvement of many different construction trades. The finish trades must interact with each another. Chapter 7 discusses briefly two trades, the mechanical and electrical trades briefly, to show their place in the overall schedule of the construction of a building and in the building process. Insulation, ceiling finish, millwork, and floor trades involvement is discussed. The student should study to understand the sequence of trades and operations, as well as some standard details for interior millwork and floors, and information concerning the design of fireplaces, stairs, and insulation systems. Gypsum wallboard and plaster are not covered in this chapter, they are treated in detail in Chapter 23, and flooring materials are covered in more detail in Chapter 24. . Chapter 8: Brick MasonryMasonry construction provides limitless intricacies. Chapter 8 is intended to provide an overview of masonry construction to provide the student with an initial understanding of the topic. Mortar, bricks, and brickwork are included. Chapter 9: Stone and Concrete MasonryThis chapter introduces stone and concrete masonry extending your learning of the masonry trades. Stone is different from brick: it must be cut from the earth, it must be machined to size to create masonry units, and it uses different methods of support.Concrete is molded into self-curing units. Both stone and concrete masonry units are usually many times larger than bricks, and therefore require different laying techniques. Each has its own aesthetic.Chapter 10: Masonry Wall ConstructionChapters 8 and 9 introduced you to the various types of masonry units, mortar, and the working methods of the mason. This chapter covers the details of buildings that use masonry walls: nonbearing as well as those used to support building floors and roofs. This chapter brings together such concerns as structural integrity, water tightness, thermal insulation, spanning systems, and expansion and contraction. There is no more important information in this chapter than that concerning the detailing of masonry cavity walls. If you are well versed in cavity wall construction, you will be well prepared to learn the details of masonry veneer cladding (Chapter 20). Cavity wall and masonry veneer detailing are of fundamental importance.Chapter 11: Steel Frame ConstructionSteel frame construction is a system with astonishing capabilities at every scale of building, from houses to very tall buildings to very, very long spans. The objectives of this chapter are to help you become fully literate in the vocabulary of steel frame construction. This chapter covers steel properties, standard shapes that are available, the producer/fabricator/erector system, the basic logic of both shear and moment connections in steel, steel framing systems for buildings, fireproofing of steel, and long-span structural devices in steel.Chapter 12: Light Gauge Steel Frame ConstructionLight gauge steel frame construction is important for its widespread use in noncombustible construction as well as for its potential importance in single-family dwelling construction as a substitute for conventional lumber. This chapter emphasizes the essential similarity between wood platform frame construction and light gauge steel frame construction. The student who has learned Chapter 5 thoroughly will have little trouble understanding this chapter. Without a previous study of Chapter 5, however, this chapter will be much harder to master.only one and half page for this summary MAL or APA essay
