Marketing Plan:
Google Home Hub
Product Description
The Google Home Hub is a smart speaker with Google Assistant voice assistant
technology. The model is available in several colors and has a 7-inch display touchscreen, a
floating display with a back like an angled pedestal propping up the larger display (this makes
the Home Hub better for setting up on tight spaces shared with other items, such as a shelf or the
corner of a table), and features a cloth-like covering for the base. Behind the covering are the
speakers for the device. Interestingly, the Home Hub does not have a camera feature. That
means that it cant make video calls, which other smart displays offer with a simple voice
command. Google appears worried that people will think the Home Hub is spying on them if it
includes a camera. The company specifically mentions that you can use the Hub in the bedroom
or other private areas without fear. For consumers who are really concerned about privacy, this
may be a plus.
The Google Home Hub works with Google Photos, with a live album feature to serve
as a picture frame when not in use. When it comes to movies and TV shows, the Hub offers
ready access to YouTube and six free months of YouTube Premium. It also features Spotify,
Pandora, iHeartRadio, and other music subscription services that work with Google Assistant.
Google Home Hub is a great asset for home automation, by being able to turn on lights, your tv
or your thermostat by using only your voice.
Target Market
Given the product benefits and features, Google Home Hub appears to be marketed
towards middle-income, tech-savvy millennials, and families. This is proven by its effort to make
the product safe and fit for the home environment, its affordable price, and its ability to provide
assistance and information using only the voice. Google Home is not just a consumer product,
it’s usable by businesses as well. Consumers will use Google Homes as an entertainment and
information hub, while businesses can use various features to automate smart offices and to
extend their market reach.
Elements of the Marketing Mix
The Google Home hub is priced at $149, where the Amazon Echo Show is at $230. The
Google Home Hub is significantly more affordable and seems to add more value in comparison
to the Amazon Echo Show. Google Home seems to go with a penetration pricing approach.
Where they price their products lower than their competitors to gain market share. Promotional
elements deployed include digital marketing channels and TV advertisements. Google shared a
number of videos through Youtube that showcase the features of the Google Home Hub. One
particular video that draws emotion from consumers while showcasing the features, is a video
that integrates family and how the Google Home Hub can bring them together. Google overall
has done advertising with well-known celebrities to spread the word about their products;
celebrities like John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. Interesting initiatives Google has done for their
marketing plans is collaborating with other digital channels to bring the Google Home Hub to the
spotlight. For example, Chrissy Teigen partnered with Tasty and Google by doing a cooking
demonstration of her jalapeno cheddar cornbread recipe with the help of Googles features. The
Google Home Hub is positioned to be higher quality with a lower price relative the smart
assistant market. Consumers can purchase the device through big box retailers, or online through
the google store.
Suggestions to improving marketing efforts
Suggestions that could be made towards the marketing efforts of this product is to make
the product more appealing to other segments. The Google Home Hub is definitely a device that
tech-enthusiasts will enjoy, however different campaigns should direct towards different
segments in the market. For example, Google can target elderly customers that might need more
assistance. Their marketing initiatives could include advertisements that show how the device
can help these customers in that particular age group. Children can also benefit from this
product, obviously the wouldnt purchase it but can use it and play a role in the purchase.
Because the Google Home Hubs is rich in information and is sourced from their own search
engine along with YouTube, children can learn by asking Google a question that draws from
their curious minds or even ask to play an educational video.
