Los Angeles Pierce College Inflation Indices of Countries Paper 1. Choose a topic of interest that you would like to answer a question about in
regard to a population proportion, mean or standard deviation. Find an
established statistic for your parameter in question (include sources).
2. State the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis for your question.
3. Determine your level of significance. Low values like 0.01 mean it’s important
that you don’t erroneously reject the null hypothesis/established value, while
higher values like 0.10 mean it’s somewhat less important.
4. Collect sample data (I would recommend a sample size of at least 30 for
mean, probably over 50 for proportions; include sources) and determine
sample statistics; sample data should be included with your submission.
Display sample data in a table and in a graph. For graphs, I would
recommend using a bar graph for qualitative data, and a histogram for
quantitative data.
5. Construct a confidence interval to estimate parameter. Interpret the interval.
Perform a hypothesis test and state your conclusion. Check that you satisfied
the conditions for performing the test, or address any conditions that were not
satisfied.
6. State your conclusion.
