Digital Obsessions Final Intro
A new student at the school came into the counselor’s office today. He was inquiring
about getting help for his digital addiction. This student says he has an addiction to video games
on his mobile phone. He stated that he spends several hundred dollars each week on this game
to upgrade his avatar and gain special weapons. The game he plays the most is PUBG, and it is a
first-person shooting game like the call of duty video games. He stated that he would like help
from a counselor to ween himself off the games. By quitting the game, he hopes to lead a more
useful life. He said that from the moment he wakes up until it’s time to sleep, he plays the game
and has spent over three-thousand dollars on the game. He feels he will then have more time
to reconnect with friends and keep his grades from continuing to fall lower by quitting the
game.
This student stated that his good friend had told him about the game one day, and now
his entire life is consumed by this game. He no longer talks to this friend, nor does he have the
vibrant social life he once had. He feels as though his friends don’t even attempt to contact him
anymore since they know he would rather stay home playing video games. His apartment is
extremely messy now, with dirty dishes piled up in the sink and dirty clothes strewn across his
studio. This student is in dire need of counseling services since he is even spending his food

allowances on this game now. When asked what he has been eating, he exclaimed, Ramen
Noodles, because they are so cheap. I feel this student risks dropping out of his classes due to
failing grades and not having money for tuition if this routine continues.
