Journal 4 — The Soundtrack of My Life

Salsa developed out of the musical traditions of people who migrated to New York City from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico and then traveled back to those islands — and to Colombia, Panama, Venezuela and eventually around the world. Salsa is one example of how music and dance express and shape human experience. Think about what role music and dance have played in your life. Has salsa or any other Caribbean music or dance been a part of your life? If so, how? If not, what other kinds of music have helped you celebrate, mourn, commune with friends, or just get through the day.
