Hostos Community College Philosophy Of Education System Essay Part One: My Philosophy of EducationDo not use spaces or tabs for first line indentations (Jones, 2013). Use proper first line indentations that are set using the paragraph menu or using the ruler at the top of the page (Butler & Furnish, 2012). Direct quotations in formal academic papers are to be avoided in favor of paraphrases (Remark, 1966; Smith, 1945, Thorne, 1988; Verninsky 2010). If building scholarly consensus by including a number of sources to validate a claim, the sources should appear in alphabetical order in the in-text citation (Alpha, 1900; Beta, 1899; Gamma, 2010; Delta, 1977; Epsilon, 2002; Zeta, 2001; Eta, 2002). The more scholarly sources used the better (Jones, 1923). If possible, every sentence in an essay should have at least one in-text citation (Roberts, 1988). Citations, even to the same author and article, are required if material in the sentence is not original (Roberts, 1988). Roberts (1988) states that repeated citations to the same source are required no matter how repetitive.
