help with discussion about social media

Help me study for my English class. I’m stuck and don’t understand.

As a change of pace surrounding the readings on our nation’s food and dietary habits, this week’s discussion deals with another issue currently causing controversy in our society. As you’ll soon discover, I like to select random topics to discuss for our posts. The purpose of this is for you to practice developing an argument and defend your views.

Directions:

Respond to the following discussion post in at least one paragraph. Please respond to at least one of your classmates’ posts. In your response, address your classmate by name and point to something that he/she wrote that got your attention. You may agree or disagree with your classmate but you must always do so in a respectful manner.

Is social media making people too narcisstic? Are people spending too much time attempting to appear attractive or interesting to others? Consider the amount of selfies some individuals take and then post on Instagram or Facebook, for instance. What do you believe lies behind this preoccupation with self-image? Is social media becoming a problem for our society? Why or why not? Take a stand and make a brief argument in which you provide reasons (or evidence) to support the way you feel. Don’t forget to respond to one of your classmates’ posts!
