Focus on some Harlem Renaissance Facts and then you have to solve dimensional analysis problems with those facts. And the second one focuses on doing a bit of research on the art fashion poetry etc. that were made in the Harlem renaissance and then connecting them to chemistry
This task is non-optional. You can complete it as your first or second task but to earn science credit for this project you must complete this task
Non-Optional 1 (REQUIRED): Using your skills in dimensional analysis solve the following problems related to the Harlem Renaissance and the 1920-1930’s. We want you to keep your science skills sharp.
Dimensional Analysis in the Harlem Renaissance
Section 1 : Complete all problems using the unit cancellation method we used and practiced during unit 1
*Challenge problem is optional

Traveling from a place like Thomasville, Georgia to Harlem, New York you would have to travel no fewer than 1,031 miles
A horse-drawn cart can average about 12.5 mph (miles per hour) and can manage at the most 3 hours of travel per day
Having noncorrosive metals means that we can have appliances such as fridges and stoves that which last for years if not decades. He essentially was able to create metals that had a much much slower rate of reaction compared to pure metals such as iron or aluminum.
A common mixture of metals (called an alloy) that makes up stainless steel is chromium, iron, and carbon.
Convert each of those amounts into grams (total should be approx. 100 g)
~1.38 mol Cu
~0.10 mol Sb
~0.03 mol P
Section 2: Please complete three of the four options below
Problem A: Not all food was available in the 1920-1930’s and people had to get creative and resourceful.
2.Look around your kitchen and find ingredients to make a least three different recipes.
Problem B: The “You Cannot Afford to be Gray in the Day of Youth:”, 1920s Ads slogan for Hair Coloring. The fashions of the nineteen twenties emphasized youth and natural hair dyes were a way to get rid of the gray.
Natural dye #1
Natural dye #2
Problem C: The availability of electricity to the public led to the market of household appliances. The refrigerator was introduced in 1927. Many of these early refrigerators contained toxic gasses as the coolant including; sulfur dioxide, methyl chloride, or ammonia.
Problem D: Make up your own word problem from something you found in your study of the Harlem Renaissance or from looking up items for this problem set or other science tasks.
Science Option 2: Choose one of the four categories; Fashion, Medicine, Prohibition, or Music. Within the category you chose is an invention. Research answers to the embedded questions about this invention and its impact on the times of the Harlem Renaissance.
Select one of the following:
Choose one of these inventions. Explain the Chemistry and/or Physics behind its manufacture/function. In what ways did this invention alter fashion, style and human behavior.
Choose one of these discoveries. Explain the research that led to its discovery and what changes it had on the health industry, life expectancy, and human behavior of the times.
Look into the process of creating and then distilling alcohol. What physical properties of the alcohol where used to concentrate it and increase its ‘proof’?
What practices made the distillation process so dangerous? What by-products produced and additives added could make the alcohol deadly to consumers?
How does this hundred plus year old electronics technology work? What is the physics behind its function? What chemical elements are necessary to manufacture an amplifier? What were the first musical instruments to be amplified? How did amplified music change the behavior of humans?
