H 543 Penn State University Maximum Contaminant Levels Assessment I need this done by Saturday Night Pacific time zone. First you need to find the number information on the given website and paste into the excel. And then you use R studio to calculate from the excel sheet. R code is required for some calculations. H543 Exposure Science, Final Exam
For the final, you will download your own data sets from the “Your Water” website.
https://yourwater.oregon.gov/alertscounty.php
1. EPA Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL’s):
https://www.epa.gov/ground-water-and-drinking-water/national-primary-drinking-waterregulations
2. There are 3 water system types, including C, NTNC, and NC. These are all considered public
water systems, which are required to meet the EPA MCL.
Community (C) Water System: 15+ service connections used by year-round residents, or that regularly
serves 25+ year-round residents.
Non-Transient Non-Community Water System (NTNC). A public water system that regularly supplies
water to at least 25 of the same people at least six months per year, but not year-round. Some examples
are schools, factories, office buildings, and hospitals, which have their own water systems.
Non-community (NC) water system (I assume this is transient non-community): A public water system
that regularly serves at least 25 people over six months per year. Non-community public water systems
are facilities, such as campgrounds or gas stations.
3. Instructions:
1. Go to the “Your Water” website.
2. Choose a date range- at least 1 year.
3. Choose an “Alert Type,” for example, “Chemical Alerts- Inorganic Chemicals Only.” Click “Update Search
Results” You will see results for Arsenic, Nitrate, and Fluoride.
4. Choose a chemical.
5. Copy and paste all the data into Excel (you can do this!). Once the data are in Excel, you can delete the
rows of data you don’t need.
Summarize the data, as follows:
1. What is the EPA MCL for this chemical (use the website given above)?
2. Briefly describe the “people problem” associated with your chemical, i.e., the health impacts
(from the MCL EPA website). You will need to download one paper from ISI Web of Science.
3. How many counties (out of 36) have alerts for this chemical?
4. Which county has the highest number of alerts?
5. Which county has the highest average concentration of this chemical?
6. Which county has the highest median concentration of this chemical?
7. Make a boxplot comparing the concentrations of this chemical for all counties. Are there
significant differences between counties? You can test this.
Turn in:
