Case Study: Tom is 3 years old and has Down Syndrome. He is social and likes to smile and talk with other children. His fine motor skills are on the 2 year old level according to the OT’s report. He is demonstrating over extension of the fingers during release. He uses a pincer grasp when picking up a 1- inch block, he uses bilateral manipulation to change the position of and explore objects. He has some thumb rotation, but uses a lot of thumb adduction. He brings his thumb to the middle finger at the middle phalanx rarely bringing his thumb and index finger together to grasp an object.

1. List and describe the reach, grasp, and manipulation skills you would expect for someone Tom’s Age.
2. Describe the delays Tom is exhibiting in is fine motor skills.
3. Design a list of five activities to address these delays. Explain your rationale.
4. Provide two suggestions were home activities at Tom’s parents can do with him.
