Financial Management Horniman Horticulture Financial Management Essay Financial Management Essay. I need a quality paper, No plagiarism no grammar typos. Kindly read through the requirement before you bid The paper is supposed to be a maximum of 5 pages and submitted as a word document, not a PDF. The professor changed the essay to a 5 page maximum. Please note that. it should not be a 10 page. It should be a 5 page maximum,The professor is very specific with the format. I will send a sample later. Make sure the paper follows the format. So, in closing, remember:
1. Read case for the big picture but don’t forget to also look at the detail – and try hard not to get lost in the detail going off on a tangent not relevant to the big
picture.
2. Consider key success/failure factors, constraints (such as bank covenants), opportunities, and so on. Use them as appropriate in the case and disregard them if
not relevant to the problem you are doing your analysis on.
3. Are tools such as SWOT, PESTLE or Porter’s 5 Forces relevant? If so use them – but NEVER use these models where they are as relevant to the defined
problem as trying to fit a large square peg into a small round hole. In other words, never stop using critical thinking and judgement and only apply tools as
appropriate to the situation. Tools used as stand along appendices or “analysis paragraphs” take away value as opposed to adding value.
4. Remember the Case Approach Structure – refer to Announcements such as those on May 26, June 6, 16, and 26. Now that you have done 2 cases, these
announcements may make a tad more sense.
5. Ponder the various tools from your Connect silos of knowledge – assess how and when you can apply them and when you should decide not to use the tools in
the case.
Good luck on Case #3
I have received a request provide some guidance on Case #3. This is a difficult question to answer if I want the case to meet its objective of ensuring students can
demonstrate the ability to assess the facts of the case, understand the business environment and situation in the case, understand the problem that has to be
addressed, and then can apply the tools and techniques studied to recommend a solution to the problem as defined.
If I give you too much specific information as to which tools to use or as to what the root problem is, then I have defeated the purpose of the case method as I would
then turn the case assignment into something similar to a Connect textbook concept question where you can merely mechanically demonstrate calculations of a tool that
can be used – for example calculate things such as a specific liquidity ratio, a sustainable growth rate, free cash flow, preparing a pro forma statements of income or
cash flow, determining the required funds needed to grow at a specific growth rate, the impact of operating and/or financial leverage, break-even or target profit
calculations, the cash conversion cycle, and so on.
So read the case carefully. Is the case very directed in which case you are specifically told what the problem is (as in Case #1) or is the case somewhat directed where
the problem is very implicitly (but not explicitly) stated.
Or does the case have sufficient ambiguity that you must determine what the problem is and apply your critical thinking to define the root problem. This is often the case
in the real world when an outside consultant is brought in to help because the client may really not know what their root problem is and consequently do not know what
to do. They only know a number of facts (such as they have to constantly go to the bank and ask for short term money despite being profitable as per their income
statement) and are seeking a resolution to their problem which may be a function of their not understanding the difference between income and cash flow.
Remember, that outside consultants and internal management are often required to use critical thinking skills to make decisions as to what the problem is that should be
addressed, decide which tools in their tool kit to use (such as preparing a cash flow statement to understand cash flows from Operating, Investing, and Financing, or
determining some financial ratios that they consider to be relevant, and interpreting the ratios in light of the circumstances and then making recommendations to
address the short and/or long term problem(s) that the case writer has defined.
So take some time to ponder the tools that you have been learning in the various silos of knowledge chapter by chapter as these are the techniques that you may need
depending on the case:
1. You know how to prepare a cash flow statement to quickly see cash flows from operating, investing, and financing and can reconcile from net income over a
period of time to the change in cash over the same period of time.
2. You know how to calculate financial ratios and what the ratios mean therefore if the case fact suggests for example a liquidity concern, you could apply liquidity
ratios with an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of these ratios (for example if a firm has a heavy investment in slow moving inventory the current
ratio is of limited use and the quick ratio would be more appropriate).
3. You have seen how to calculate the funds needed to finance growth and you should be able to see how much can be financed internally and how much will
require new additional external financing.
4. You have seen how to calculate break-even ands use the degree of financial and operating leverage
5. Etc.
Overview
There are three (3) individual cases in this course. Each case is unique and business style of writing is required. The first case is worth 10%, and the second and third
cases are worth 15 % each.
Through the cases you will improve your ability to develop a comprehensive assessment of a business situation.
Purpose
The purpose of the case submissions is to provide decision-making opportunities based on substantiated reasoning and clear communication of the analysis,
alternatives and recommendations for the particular party in the case, based upon real examples of financial management processes. The cases help prepare you to
engage in, and complete, the Team Case assessment.
The individual cases will assess your ability to meet course learning outcomes 1 through 8.
Individual Case #3: Horniman Horticulture
The cases are specifically designed in a way that requires critical analysis of the situation, consideration of multiple factors, and the ability to view the situation from
many perspectives based upon the scenario and questions posed. While the cases require calculations, the key is to rationalize the determination of the calculations
based upon your analysis of the situations presented in the case. You will be required to determine the problem and assess the potential problem resolution in
response to a series of guiding questions. Each case results in the submission of a report, using the following report structure:
Format: Adhere to a concise Business Style of Writing, factual and without opinion till the conclusion and recommendations. Best to leave out adjectives and
adverbs whenever possible.
• Style and organization: Headings should be used to divide and organization the various sections of your paper.
Length: A maximum of 10 pages. The Appendices are not included in your total page count.
• Font: The text should use Times New Roman, 12-point font and double line spacing.
• Title Page: Report Title, Student name, submission date, Instructor name.
Executive Summary: A summary paragraph enabling readers to quickly grasp the main elements of the report without having to read the entire report, is
optional.
.
Table of Contents: Sections in the report and associated
page numbers.
• Introduction: Overview of the report.
.
• Purpose: Summary as to why you are writing this report in relation to the situation presented. Include the problem statement and summarize what you are
attempting to accomplish through your analysis, and what you are communicating via the report.
Analysis of the Situation and Alternatives: Critical assessment of the situation presented, perspectives considered, factors impacting the assessment of the
situation, and the possible alternatives considered in the analysis.
Conclusions: Summary of the main implications arising from your analysis.
Recommendations: What recommendations follow as a result of the problem determination and its analysis?
• Appendices: Those tables, charts, references, technical diagrams, computations, and other supporting documents that speak to the situation and its analysis.
The Appendixes are lettered rather than numbered (Appendix A, Appendix B, etc.), and listed in the table of contents. Appendices are referred to at the
appropriate point in the body of the report as “Appendixx”.
Grading Expectations
Only the most recent submission will be graded. For grading expectations refer to the rubric.
Your instructor will grade the cases throughout the semester and grades will be posted to the gradebook within 10 days following due dates of individual cases.
Cases are assessed out of 100 points each. However, the first individual case is worth 5%, and the second and third cases are worth 10% each.
