Students should feel free to answer whatever scholarly question relating to the documentary that the student finds the most interesting. But each Film Review should in some way answer the following question; what does this film tell us about New York City’s Jewish history over the 20th century? Students might also want to consider how the Jewish history of New York influenced the development of intellectual life in modern American society. Whatever question you choose to pursue, be sure to present a clear and concise argument using evidence from the film and course readings. The vast majority of each paper should be dedicated to analysis and presenting your unique ideas rather than providing a synopsis of the film, so therefore be sure to keep summarization to a minimum.    To earn a grade in the A range for this assignment, students will need to use course readings (at least 2, including secondary or primary sources) to provide background historical context and to help support their respective arguments. Students should also feel free to reference information from course lectures. Accordingly, papers should include proper citations, preferably using footnotes. Be sure to proof-read to eliminate typos and awkward phrasings.
