It’s difficult to predict how each individual will respond to a drug. There are many factors that influence the rate of absorption, metabolism and excretion. Describe two different individuals and what factors may account for their different responses to a drug and how long it lasts in their system. Include at least 3 different concepts from Chapter 5 in your discussion.
To understand how drugs affect us, we must first understand how the brain communicates. The most basic level of communication is the neuron. Find a really great website or drawing of a neuron. Post this for your classmates to see and then describe the different structures of the neuron and what they do (in your own words). Also, choose one of the neurotransmitters discussed in the text and describe its role in normal brain functioning. What behaviors, feelings, etc… does it affect? Do some searching on the internet to see if you can find a drug that affects this neurotransmitter. Would we call this drug an agonist or an antagonist for the naturally occurring neurotransmitter? How does it interfere with drug-receptor binding?
