Digital Space in Learning Essay The learning process never happens in a vacuum: we all occupy spaces, both physical and digital. For this assignment, we will learn the basics of rhetorical analysis as applied to non-standard texts: spaces.

Reading spaces as texts will rely on your ability to identify the main rhetorical appeals: ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos. You will also need to identify the rhetorical situation: the audience, the purpose, and the context in which your text/space exists.

You will write a 5-page (double-spaced) essay analyzing a space in your life that you are prepared to question, whether physical or digital. Choose something familiar and accessible, but not necessarily something you hold too dear.

For a successful essay, consider the following questions:

What is the purpose of this space?
What emotional impact does this space have, whether on yourself or on others?
What is the history of the space?
What is the rhetorical situation/circumstances of the space?
Who is the audience of this space, intended and actual?
What is your connection to the space?
What implicit or explicit arguments is this space making?
What visual or textual evidence gives meaning to the space?
Provide evidence for the questions you answer. How do you know?

What I will look for in your essays:

An analysis of all major claims along with evidence
An analysis of the rhetorical situation along with evidence
A cohesive organization/structure
A clear thesis

What I will disapprove of:

Claims that are not backed up with evidence (ask: why do you think/how do you know this?)

the half-draft only need about 2.5 pages and i have a easy outline about these two spaces in the word document The first space I want to write about is a true space about my dormitory which
makes me feel comfortable. I spend most of time in my dorm, not only I sleep in
my dormitory over eight hours per day, I will also choose to back to my dormitory
after finishing my class every day. On my first day in this dormitory, I spent a lot
of energy to sort out my baggage, set up my own bed and writing desk, clean the
dorm, I tried my best to dress up the dorm to make me feel comfortable. We also
bought some small appliances like microwave oven, small fridge and electric
kettle, which means that we can store the fresh fruits and drink the hot water, it
makes us feel more likely in the home. Whenever I finish a day class, I will choose
to go back to the dormitory early. I am more accustomed to completing my
homework in my own dorm instead of the library. I can enter my own world when
I sit in front of my computer, put on my headphones and start the music, I can sit
quietly in my position all day to calculate a difficult math problem or finish a
whole essay. When I am tired, I will decide to play various computer games with
my roommates, it is a really effective way to relax after overcoming different hard
tasks together, I will get a strong sense of accomplishment. Dormitory is also a
place where I can always have video chats with my family when I am homesick.
The second space I want to write about is the Math Emporium which makes me
feel uncomfortable. As we all know, some of math classes need students to go to
the math emporium to complete the labs, quiz and exams, I am also a member of
these students. But actually, I do not like this method of learning at all. In the
math class, we just need to finish the labs as group of three people, although there
are a few tutors who can help us around us, the labs are still difficult for us. We
need to follow the steps in the task paper, but the explanations in each step are
difficult to understand, so we ask the tutors for help many times every class,
which means we have less time to complete the task, so we cannot finish the
whole content in the labs. As for the quiz, which is most difficult section for me.
To obtain a good academic achievement in the quiz, I need to learn the knowledge
from the online book and supplementary lectures by myself, and the content are
always boring and difficult to understand.
