Assignment Objective
As a Database Administrator, to configure the database server, choose and apply skills relevant
client/server environment and manage the data in an organization’s business processes.
Assignment Tasks
1. Submit a work proposal for this assignment on or before 08/05/2020, 23:59 Hrs. which must
include:
• Understanding of deliverables – a detail description of deliverables.
• General overview of proposed plan – initial understanding of solution to task to task-4.
Timeline for completion of the given tasks.
The work proposal must be submitted in a word file through the Turnitin link available in Moodle.

2. Using suitable examples of your own, discuss the need of database logical structures and their
significance in effective management of database.
You should not simply discuss the concepts of logical structures, however, should focus on why it is
not possible to maintain a database with just physical structures i.e. datafiles, log files etc. Solution
should emphasize on the need of having tablespaces, segments, extents and data blocks and their
usage by the Database Administrator in effective management of database.
Note: You may relate your examples with a database of any organization. No need to name any
organization, you may use a bank, university, hypermarket etc.

3. As a Database Administrator, provide the solutions for the following with a brief elaboration of each
SQL command. Ensure to follow Optimal Flexible Architecture (ОFA) guidelines. SQL commands
should be executed and screenshots should be included in the solution.
a. Create a tablespace with at least two optional features.
b. Create a user and assign the tablespace created in task-3a. User should be given privileges to
perform the SQL commands given in task-3c.
C. For any relevant organization of your choice (e.g. bank, airlines, hypermarket etc.), create any
two relevant tables of your choice, ensure that the table and the columns you choose are
related with the chosen organization or scenario. The tables must be satisfying the following
criteria:
i. Ensure to use overall at least four datatypes including a Date datatype.
ii. Demonstrate the usage of five data integrity constraints.
iii. Insert at least three relevant records in each of the two tables.
Note: Tables should be related to the chosen organization or scenario, marks shall be
deducted for irrelevant tables and/or columns, and data. You should not use DEPT and
EMP tables in this task.
d. Choosing any one table created in the task-3c, demonstrate the usage of database object
sequence. Solution must include the SQL commands to create the sequence and inserting at
least two records using the sequence.
e. For the tablespace created in task-3a, list any six operations that can be performed by the
Database Administrator in managing the tablespace. Your solution must include the SQL
commands preferably as screenshots, to perform the listed operations and brief elaboration of
each SQL command indicating its impact on the database and/or user. In the elaboration part,
you must choose any examples of your choice.
Note for all sub-tasks in task-3: You must include your name while naming the tablespace, user,
tables, sequence and datafile. For example, if a student name is Ahmed, name of sequence can
be Seq_Invoice_Ahmed.

4. Operation of database client/server systems requires a networked environment where the
processing of an application is split between the client and the server.
In view of the above context, as a Database Administrator, answer the following:
a. Using valid examples relating to real-time scenarios, in your own words, discuss the ideal
situations to use two-tier and three-tier client/server database environments.
Note: Simply writing theoretical points should be avoided, your solution must be related
with the chosen scenario. You need to draw diagrams of your own, which carry marks.

b. Discuss the role of client and server in a database client/server environment. Your solution
must include relevant examples.
