Steps to Complete Your Assignment
Here are the steps recommended for you to complete this assignment:
Step 1: Prepare to Write Your Assignment
Go through the Module 5 Lesson to learn more about the assignment expectations, such as learning objectives and references and post any questions you have to the Ask the Instructor Forum
Read over the Internet Sources Review Assignment Grading Guidelines (PDF) to check your understanding of the assignment expectations
Choose a technical term from the list provided in Table 1 above to be the topic of your assignment and join that topic’s group using the Learning Activity 5.1: Self-Selection Group Activity (maximum 15 students per group; first come, first serve)
Read or re-read the assigned reading relevant to your topic (either World Religions: Chinese Traditions excerpt, World Religions: Japanese Traditions excerpt or World Religions: Korean Traditions excerpt), taking note what would help you write a general definition and give a specific example of that technical term
Find two textual, video or audio sources accessible online that use the term, say something about what it means and/or give specific examples from East Asian religions. Then, make sure that nobody else in your topic group has already claimed those sources. Claim your own sources by posting them to your topic group’s discussion board in Module 5
Gather your bibliographic information, making sure that you have a few key quotations, specific page numbers, and website addresses
Step 2: Write Your Assignment
Draft a definition of the technical term based on the course materials that makes both a general statement about the term’s meaning and gives a specific example
Draft your own balanced evaluation of each of the sources you claimed using the Criteria for Evaluating Internet Resources; make sure to consider both positive and negative factors and remember it is fine if one or both of your sources fail the evaluation
With those evaluations in mind, decide whether and how to apply the sources you found to revise and/or expand the original definition based on course materials
Write an explanation of whether and how you have applied these sources to your original definition and why
Formalize your references, making sure to include quotations, page numbers, web addresses, and so on in the Chicago Manual of Style format, Author-Date.
Step 3: Edit Your Assignment
Apply the Internet Sources Review Assignment Grading Guidelines (PDF) to your own assignment and figure out what you can change to earn more points
Optional: check/post in the Ask Your Instructor Forum if you have any questions about the rubric
Optional: Post your assignment to the Internet Sources Assignment Peer Feedback Activity so that your peers can offer balanced advice
Optional: View at least one of the assignments in the forum and offer your own balanced advice
Revise your assignment accordingly
Step 4: Submit Your Assignment
You should submit the final draft of your Internet Source Review assignment by the due date listed in the course outline and the CULearn calendar. There are three separate submission boxes depending on the technical term you chose to write about:
If you have written your assignment on a technical term in Chinese religions, submit your assignment here;
If you have written your assignment on a technical term in Japanese religions, submit your assignment here;
If you have written your assignment on a technical term in Korean religions, submit your assignment here.
Each course participant only has to submit one ISR assignment; please do not submit one to each submission box.
N.B. Any questions about the criteria for evaluating internet sources or the marking guidelines should be asked on the Ask the Instructor Forum. Personal issues regarding challenges to completion or requests for accommodation should be sent via e-mail at least 48 hours before the due date.
