Following are the extra credit papers topics. They were inspired, directly or indirectly, by your
Final Paper Proposals. The length of an extra credit paper must be 150 — 500 words.
1. Explain “how humans affect each other through the creation of Artificial Intelligence.”
(AA) Analyze at least two examples.
2. “Is Cryptocurrency an ethical currency and is Blockchain an ethical technology?” (BA)
Support your argument with evidence.
3. Using “insect allies” (EO) as the springboard for your investigation, explore the ethical
side of the possibility that the current pandemic was caused by an escapee from a science
laboratory.
4. Write an answer to the question posed in the “paper ‘Towards the Ethical Robot’ by
James Gips: what ethical system should an autonomous AI use?” (FA) Be sure to justify
your view.
5. “Write a paper on the ethical concerns of using robotics as companions and guardians for
Elderly/Alzheimer’s patients.” (JD)
6. “If such an AI was created that was an exact duplicate of my brain, memories,
personality, etc, would it be me?” (MS) What is the ethical significance of this question,
if any? Be sure to justify your view.
7. “Should AI be given the ability to retaliate with nuclear weapons to reinforce deterrence
theory?” (PB) Be sure to justify your view.
8. If an AI-endowed robot considered your action to be immoral (unethical), should that
robot stop you? Be sure to justify your view.
9. One of your Final Paper questions was about robot-bosses and robot-teachers. Bosses and
teachers have legitimate power over their subordinates and students. Could a robot in that
position be effective and follow Asimov’s Laws of Robotics? Be sure to justify your
view.
