Open a web browser and go to www.pubmed.gov. Search for “Vibrio fischeri luxA” or “Aliivibrio fischeri luxA”.
Note some of the titles, write information for three of the references down, and turn in a list of these references with your report using proper scientific reference format (see Instruction 6) using MS Word.
Find the article from the first author Visick which was published in the Journal of Bacteriology in the year 2000. Click on the link to view the article. Download the PDF to your computer and save or print it for later reference.
Read the paper. Identify the five main sections of the text (Hint: the five sections are listed in the syllabus, and contain a word limit for your lab reports). Give a sentence from the first or second paragraph of each section along with a brief explanation of the reason why that exact sentence is in that particular section of the paper. Your lab reports will follow a similar structure to this paper.
Copy the last sentence of the last paragraph of the introduction. What is the purpose of this sentence and what does this sentence tell you about the paper?
