1. Identify any three major ethical issues in the case and justify. [220 words]
The 1986 Chernobyl disaster resulted from a defective configuration of the reactor, which
was run by inadequately trained staff. The disaster destroyed the Chernobyl 4 reactor and
killed 30 operators and firemen within three months and a few more deaths later. One
individual was killed instantly and a second died in hospital shortly after injuries were
sustained
1- Impact on environment : there zone unit experts and cons on this side . on one hand , vitality
is property , doesn’t emanate unpractised house gas , and creates such a great deal less
squanders than standard vitality . With overstated interest for vitality and diminishing fuel
gives , vitality , a property different contrasted with wind and star energies , seems a
potential decision to supplant fuel vitality . opposing , vitality isn’t green ; it includes mining
and refinement or radioactive crude materials and removal of radioactive squanders , that
hurt the setting and brings wellbeing dangers to close occupants .
2- Impact on local residents : reality full disclosure on potential dangers , brief data sharing and
training on help ways may encourage to abstain from squandering lives , cut back wounds ,
and smooth open frenzy , remarkably just if there should be an occurrence of atomic
mishaps . in differentiation , governments and exchange ordinarily minimize the potential
dangers or don’t unharness the all-out realities to the overall population . the fukushima
calamity was an average model . when the debacle occurred , the information from TEPCO
and furthermore the Japanese as referenced previously , nuclear vitality needs mining ,
advancement , transport , and removal of radioactive materials , and a lot of nuclear vitality
plants find in thickly occupied zones . occupants near these exercises territory unit
anesthetize overstated hazard for malignancy and distinctive medical problems on account
of semi perpetual presentation to low-level outflow , an atomic mishap can lift such hazard to
an alternate limit . this is frequently contrary to the standards of nonmaleficence and equity .
3- Safety laws and violations : in order to determine the ethical issues , nuclear vitality
controllers and exchange should follow the virtues and standards to shape decisions in
order to boost favourable circumstance and limit the hurt . totally different completely
different completely different partners could have various feelings on vitality on account of
various qualities and standards , totally various realities and information they need on vitality
and totally various discernments on the final product of the decision .

The disaster caused the “biggest uncontrolled radioactive release ever recorded in the
world” and mostly had an immediate effect on Ukraine, Belarus and Western Russia.
As has been affected by all neighboring countries, especially Belarus (Belarus), causing diseases such as
cancer and radiation-related diseases.
According to official estimates about 8,400,000 people have been exposed to radiation in Belarus, Russia
and Ukraine, which is more than Austria’s total population. And pollution of 155 thousand square kilometers
of land belongs to pollution in the three countries, which is equivalent to half of Italy’s total territory.
Staff are the most vulnerable people to risk and with their
effort to control the radioactive leak they face this catastrophe directly.
The exposure of the nuclear accident reached 162,160 km2
and the radiation was spread irregularly, due to environmental conditions.
Naturally the release of radioactive material from Chernobyl Plan Can Present in the Atmosphere
for A long time and continue to affect the ecosystem unit the radioactivity is declining.
3. As a decision maker how would you take decisions differently applying ethical principles.
Suggest any three ethical principles and explain. [220 words]
Me as engineering will make wise decision and it may help sometimes . The deliberate use of one or more
of these concepts and ethical methods will also allow you to evaluate decisions and alternatives before
making a decision or addressing an ethical problem.
Following organizational ethics generates the best outcome when employees , students
And workers give their full effort to achieve the best results.
1-
Reducing environmental damages: Legal regulations regulate how
businesses can produce energy while reducing pollution and how
waste is handled to reduce environmental harm.
2-
Operating a fair and safe place of work : the employee shall bear all
damages to worker and all damages will effect the environment
Duty to Provide Safe Products: In this case, it is necessary to

Chernobyl was a nuclear accident, the accident started during a safety check on an RBMK-type nuclear
reactor. So it was identified as a possible safety risk which could overheat the core of the nuclear reactor,
this threat was not evident in the operating orders, so the operators carried out the electrical check.
Therefore one of the main reasons is to release a huge amount of water, which destroyed the reactor’s core
and blew a highly damaging steam out. Intentionally, the reactor was pursued into an extremely dangerous
situation. Nobody will tell he has exposed the reactor to a dangerous place.
In any nuclear power plant, operators should train appropriately and be properly directed for their and
others’ protection inside and outside the facility. This Chernobyl accident occurred in 1986; occurred due to
the (both unbelievable) failure in the construction of inadequately qualified staff.
It was like a combination of defective reactor design and a mix of human error.
In this situation, the plant operators did not even warn the authorities or the local public when they failed
deliberately to protect people outside the nuclear power plant. Unless they had alerted the authorities about
the crash within 15 minutes, more lives may have been saved.
5. What positive or negative moves /actions could have avoided the disaster? [220 words]
When people live in unsafe areas, including near an active factory they should be ready for any
sudden accident . A disaster happened whether it natural or human-made . The phenomenon
causes many damages In particular where preventive steps have not been taken . in this case
everyone should be ready for these accidents to avoid the risks and damages .
–
They should not have attempted to combine the production of weapons with the production
of oil. That was tried by the Swedes and miserably failed.
–
They should not have done stuff under the radar of the regulatory authorities. They should
not have deviated from the program.
–
The test was stated incorrectly, and the manual was modified. That was not much of a
concern, however, because the people who were preparing to do the test were well educated.
–
RBMK reactors should not be operating with the fuel isotope combination. Usage of natural
uranium, rather than enrichment
