Introduction

At the graduate level, it is appropriate to include a brief introduction to set the stage for what follows in the body of the document.

PART 1: INTENSITY IV BEHAVIOR SURVEY

Step 1: Using your school’s Code of Conduct (e.g., Killeen ISD (Links to an external site.)) or another similar published Code of Conduct or discipline manual, identify 5-8 intense, extreme, or severe behaviors and their corresponding responses.

Step 2: Create an online survey using Survey Monkey (Links to an external site.). Save the link to share with teachers at your grade level you have selected to be on your collaborative team. Survey items will address the intensity level of the infractions identified in Step 1.

After identifying the 5-8 behaviors, consult with your collaborative team to determine if the behavior warrants a selected response.

For example, a student brings a weapon to school. What should be an appropriate administrative response1? Community service? In-house suspension? Out-of-school suspension? Expulsion? Be creative in developing your survey, while also realizing Intensity IV behaviors are more extreme acts.

Step 3: After completing the survey form, send the survey link to each collaborative team member by Wednesday of Module 3.

Step 4: By Friday of Module 3, respond to the survey sent by each team member.

Step 5: Collect and analyze the responses to your survey which will be included in the final Behavioral Matrix.

Step 6: Include the Survey Monkey link or a copy of the survey in your final paper along with a one-paragraph description of to whom you gave the survey and the process you used in gathering data.

1 Note: An administrative response is generally neither a consequence nor an intervention in the technical sense. It is simply a response to help stabilize the situation in the school setting or environment and/or a response the School Board believes is appropriate for the infraction involved. In most cases, the SPRINT process should immediately begin and run parallel to the administrative response (especially when a suspension or expulsion is involved), so a functional assessment is completed and an intervention plan is ready for timely implementation (such as immediately upon the return of the student from a suspension.)

PART 2: SUMMARY OF THE BEHAVIORAL MATRIX

Step 1: Access, open, and save the Module 3 Data Packet for Lacy Elementary Schools’ Teacher Responses to the Behavioral Matrix Summary Worksheets. Review the mock data for the teachers’ responses.

Step 2: Create a summary table in your Word or text document similar to the Behavioral Matrix, labeling each section as designated. For example, the first section would be Worksheet 1A: Intensity 1 Behaviors. (Hint: Use the Table function to create columns and rows.) Integrate the teacher responses from the Behavioral Matrix survey. Two or more teachers will need to have checked the behavior for it to be listed on the summary table. **NOTE: There is an example summary table included at the end of these assignment directions.

Step 3: Integrate the results of the Intensity IV Behavioral Survey.

Step 4: Summarize your experience with the Behavioral Matrix process by considering these guiding questions in two or three paragraphs.

What is your reaction to the Behavioral Matrix process and forms?
Discuss the advantages of developing and using the Behavioral Matrix at a specific grade level and across a school for both teachers and staff.
Explain how the Behavioral Matrix adds to the strength of a Positive Behavioral Support System (PBSS) and school-wide approach to consistent discipline and behavior management.
PART 3: BUILDING COMMUNITY ACTIONS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Write a comprehensive paragraph describing a professional development session in which you could address practical ways of building a cohesive school community response in the classroom and school-wide. What will teachers know when they leave this session? How will they learn these ideas or concepts? What will teachers need to complete these activities (PowerPoint presentation, handouts, references, etc.)? NOTE: You are not creating these materials. You are describing them in narrative format.

Conclusion

As expected of all graduate-level APA documents, it is appropriate to address conclusions drawn from the experience of considering these topics.

References

At the graduate level, all documents should include appropriate in-text citations and references to support the relationship between research and application. These reference entries belong at the end of the document in appropriate APA format.
