We have spent quite a bit of time on painting and sculpture but I would like to include architecture
here as well. The Baroque era in Europe gives rise to some of the most famous palaces. Join me
on quick tour of the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles – built for Louis, the Sun King of
France – on the east side of his palace, he would walk from his bedchamber to his receiving rooms
as the sun reflected off the windows and reflected him as he proceeded down the hallways – a
glorious mix of light, shadow but also of different materials and metals. This is a good example of
interior Baroque excess.
