Lab 3 – ABO Typing Slide Method and Strep Grouping

1. You perform an ABO typing and note that a RBC suspension agglutinates with Anti-A and not with Anti B. What antigen is on the surface of that red cell?   A second specimen does not agglutinate with either Anti-A or Anti-B.  What antigen is on the red cell surface?
2. What is the active ingredient in the Anti-A reagent?

2. The ABO slide test and the Pathodx strep grouping tests are both based on agglutination reactions. Both detect antigens.  The ABO antigen is found on RBCs and strep grouping detects bacterial cell wall antigens.  Name two other significant differences between these two test methods.

4. Describe the sensitized latex particle used in the strep grouping test.
