Informative Speech Outline
• Specific Purpose/Topic: The History of Makeup
• Opening with Impact: First, I am going to show about 3
makeup products and I want everyone to date back when
this item was invented.
• Speaker Credibility = Statistic Slide: Display the statistic
slide, and then explain it to the audience to grab their attention.
לל
“So the Egyptians created the first cosmetics (no word
on whether they received makeovers at malls along the
Nile).
They applied eye makeup called mesdement (from the
ancient Egyptian word msdmt) a mixture of copper
and lead ore, around their eyes. Green shades went on
the lower eyelids; black and dark gray were applied to
the lashes and upper eyelids. Dark colors were said to
ward off “evil eyes”

Did-Women-Start-Wearing-Makeup/
• Thesis Statement (What you are talking about): As a
current makeup artist, I would like to inform my classmates
about the history of makeup. Many people think that makeup is
something new, and all the girls are just starting to wear it, but
the history of makeup spans at least 7,000 years and is still very
popular in today’s society.
• Relevance Statement (What the audience will take away by the
end of the speech): You will learn how makeup got started,
what makeup meant to the egyptians and the importance of
makeup today,
Preview of Main Points:
• How makeup got started ( History of cosmetics)
• Evolution of makeup
The importance of makeup
Transition 1:
I will use four different transitions, both verbally and with
movement, after the preview of my main points and after each
main point itself (Each with a review of where you are coming
from, and a preview of where you are going to).
“I have introduced you to my three main points, now i
will move forward to my first main point, how
makeup got started.”

Transition 4: Now that you have heard my speech, I
want you to remember these important points.
• Conclusion Summary of important facts reviewed during the
main points of the speech
The ancient Egyptians are known to have first used the
world’s first set of cosmetics.
• Makeup, then, and now, is a way to highlight and
amplify features and youth.
• Makeup is used as a beauty aid to help build up the
self esteem and confidence of an individual.
• Close with Impact: Modern times see women (and men!)
donning all types of looks: thickly lined eyes and full red lips,
subtle eyeshadow, blush and highlighter, or simply no makeup
at all. But makeup and the everyday looks that we see in the
21st century have a history that is longer and more complicated.
