An example of how the discussion should be answered will be attached! An example of a real object could be an apple. Apples are real because they belong to the universe we live
in. They take up space in our three dimensional universe. We can touch, feel, taste, and see an apple. If
someone sees an apple and hands it to another person, they can also determine that it is real to them. An
object that is unreal or imaginary could be a unicorn. There are stories about them and depictions in art as well
as objects that display the likeness of a unicorn. However, no one has encountered a unicorn or have been able
to touch one or prove that it exists and takes up space in our three dimensional universe.
An object that was invented is a light bulb. We know that this was an invention because it had never existed
before. Fire was the way to light up surrounding areas before light bulbs were invented. Although the true
inventor of the light bulb has some controversy behind it, we can agree that it had not existed until its inventor
created it and got the first one to function. An object that was discovered is our neighboring planet, Mars. We
understand that this was discovered and not invented because there is evidence that it existed in space before
humans ever knew it was there.
An activity that I take to be a science is Chemistry. Chemistry is considered a science because it is the
discipline that involves the study of elements and compounds which are composed of atoms, molecules and
ions which make up the universe in which we live. An activity I take to be a non-science is religion. Religion is
defined as a system of faith and worship. Religions are accounts of beings whom have had supernatural
experiences. By this definition and example, it could not be considered a science. Especially since religion, goes
against science in certain instances. An activity which I consider a pseudo-science is astrology. Astrology
presents itself as a science and as the study of planets and stars and their influences upon other instances in
the universe. However, it is not based on the scientific method and therefore could not be considered an actual
science.
