University of Nebraska Lincoln Water Diffusion Lab Report Based on the hypothesis and the lab experiment I will be providing, I need a writing paper on “Why does the rate of diffusion change under different conditions?”Hypothesis: Hypothesis: Water will diffuse into the dialysis tube filled with molasses after two hours of having the dialysis tube submerged in water because the dialysis tube is semi-permeable, which should allow the water molecules to move from a high concentration area to a low concentration area into the dialysis tube and diluted with the molasses. The diluted dialysis tube with water should weigh more than it did before the experiment started.Experiment: Experiment: To test the osmotic pressure, I will pour 30 mL of molasses in two different dialysis tubings and will tie them. Next, I will leave one of the dialysis tubes in an empty beaker, and I will place the other dialysis tubes in a beaker filled with 500 mL water. After two hours I will observe the difference in weight.I will attach the data/graph and the writing requirements. A

Your writing assignment should be typed up in a Word document and should include the four
following parts:
1. Question: This will be provided for you: Why does the rate of diffusion change under different
conditions?
2. Claim: In this lab, your claim is the hypothesis you developed. Remember the essential
elements of a hypothesis includes a sound reasoning or understanding of biological processes to
support your claim and can lead to clear predictions as to whether or not the evidence you
collect will support or not support your claim.
3. Evidence: Based on your experimental design and hypothesis, your TA provided you with a set
of data that you will use to determine whether or not your claim is supported. This section
should include a graph or figure of the data you were provided as it relates to your hypothesis.
The description of your data must be sufficient, appropriate, relevant, and can be qualitative
and/or quantitative. This includes descriptions of specific data (e.g. when the water was 25°C, it
took 15 seconds for the tablet to dissolve), describing trends in data (e.g. as the temperature of
the water increased, the time to dissolve decreased), and/or comparing and contrasting data (e.g.
the tablet took 10 seconds longer to dissolve in the 25°C water than in the 50°C water.).
4. Reasoning: You were provided some key background information regarding how different
biological processes can impact rates of diffusion. In this section of your writing assignment, you
will use this background information to tie together the your hypothesis and experimental
results (your claim and your evidence). Reasoning shows how or why the data count as evidence
to support the claim, provides the justification for why this evidence is important to this claim,
and includes one or more scientific principles that are important to the claim and evidence. You
are strongly encouraged to find additional support for your reasoning from peer-reviewed
research articles (all future writing assignments will require this element).
Using the information outlined above, upload your writing assignment as a .docx or .pdf file in
the dropbox here. Most writing assignments are less than one page in length.
