University of Maryland Week 1 Database Management Questions Instructions are attached in a separate document. If there are any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. ER Assistant is a data modeling software for creating, editing, and printing an entity
relationship diagram. This week, your task is to get familiar with the tool.
Once you successfully login to virtual lab, complete the tutorial in the Using ER Assistant
instructions under content ->virtual lab.
After completing the tutorial, Post a Word document with a screenshot of a model as a response to this
conference. Post any questions you may have about this task
1. What is your understanding of the concept of DBMS from week 1’s readings? Now that you have read
all the materials for week 1, briefly discuss how DBMS can help your organization (advantages &
disadvantages).
2. Based on the video below, what is your understanding of data Vs information. Do you think data
stored in a database can assist decision making? Explain with suitable examples.
3. Let us assume you have been chosen to be the project manager for your organization for
implementing a database system (Oracle). What are the costs involved in implementing database
system?
