Racism and discrimination of the minority groups in society are among the factors
which undermine the unity. However, much has been done to condemn and alienate such
unethical practices from society. Through the media, the arts sector has been influential in
sensitizing the community on the benefits of accepting the societal dynamics since they are
natural, and no one chose his or her race. Further, people desire to be unique in modern
society to either increase their popularity or attain some goals. Get out is a movie about an
interracial couple expressing the idea of slavery and racism in the modern world. It shows
how Chris Washington has strange encounters through the weekend with his white girlfriend.
There is a bizarre encounter with one of the groundskeepers where an elaborate scheme is
unraveled, which was to prolong the lives of white people by manipulating their black
victims into the “sunken place” to allow for the transfer (David 2). The movie shows that the
blacks were mot treated with the same dignity the whites were being treated with. This,
therefore, shows that even though there are enactments that prevent racial segregation in the
society, some minority groups more so the whites hold some perceptions about the
marginalized members more so associated with racial fetishism, thus fostering racial
exploitation and suppression of black people.
Through satire, the movie illustrates the exhilarating and scary exploitation of a black
man in a white nightmare. The black people’s image is exploited because of their physical
attributes. For instance, in the movie, Chris is told by Armitage that “You have been chosen
because of the physical advantages you have enjoyed your entire lifetime” (David 3). This

means that the whites allude and have the desire towards the black people’s body attributes
and prowess. This has been a common notion in modern society with a black physique. The
movie further shows how the subtle psychology slavery has made the whites superior to the
other people in the country. As Peele states, the whites have more natural gifts, and they can
be something substantial through their determination. Therefore, he alludes that the whites
still have the notion that the marginalized groups, including the blacks, are inferior, which
leads to slavery and discrimination. It is also worth noting that the blacks are killed through
the superiority because of the whites’ notions of the blacks. This, therefore, shows the subtly
nurture the oppression of black people through the movie.
Further, the movie shows how the blacks are oppressed in a satirized sunken place,
which symbolizes minority subjugation through a multi-stage procedure with hypnosis. At
the same time, it is depicted through the movie that the larger environment through the
perceptions held contributes to the racial isolation racial prejudice with the need to silence
minorities silencing their voices and leaving them trapped in the sunken place. In summary,
even though society believes that equality coexists, the perceptions other people hold are
among the factors undermining the minority people. The horror movie, therefore, shows how
whites brutalize blacks because of the societal perceptions held in society. To make it worse,
they are mistreated in a sunken place. Consequently, it is an excellent movie to watch to
educate on societal disparities.
